Department News
Our
request for majors has been approved!
The
Art History department is pleased to announce the hiring of a new faculty
member, Maureen O'Brien. Ms. O'Brien will teach a variety of courses on
matters Medieval and Islamic. This summer she will receive her Ph.D. from
the University of North Carolina; her dissertation represents a radical
rethinking of the history, iconography and nature of the Vienna
Genesis.

In
Spring of 2007 Dr. Nygren presented a paper "Perspective and the
Problematic Body of Christ: The Perspectival Eucharistic Tabernacle"
at the MAHS conference in Indianapolis.
In
October of 2007 Dr. Nygren presented a paper "Metaphorical Mirroring
in Filippo Lippi's Barbadori Altarpiece and Fra Angelico's San
Marco Altarpiece" at the SECAC conference in Charleston, WV.
Dr. Headley published an article on public sculpture in the Encyclopedia
of New England.
Dr. Headley will be chairing a panel on American art at the SECAC
conference in Charleston, WV.
Dr. Nygren's article "'Una cosa che non e': Perspective
and Humour in the Paintings of Filippo Lippi," appeared in the Fall
2006 issue of the Oxford Art Journal. His article “’We First
Pretend to Stand at a Certain Window:’ Window as Pictorial Device and
Metaphor in the Paintings of Filippo Lippi” appeared in the Fall 2006
issue of the The Source.
Dr. Nygren's article "A Friend of the Bridegroom or a Lover of
the Bride? The Cuckolding Angel in Filippo Lippi’s Uffizi Madonna"
has been accepted for publication in The Source.

Alumni News
Lauren Teresa
('06) is completing her studies at the Fordham University
Center for Medieval
Studies where she is studying early Christian art. She has accpeted an
internship in the Antiquities Department of Christie's in New York.
Lauren
Murphy ('08) worked as an intern at Villa i Tatti in Florence during the
spring semester and interned at the Jersey City Museum during the summer.
She is currently interning at the Baltimore Museum of Art.
Alyssa
Porambo ('08) interned at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC during
the summer.
Elizabeth
Vasold ('07) is currently attending Sotheby's Masters Program in
Contemporary Art.
Lauren
Melvin ('07) is currently attending Christie's Masters Program in Modern
Art, Connoisseurship and the History of the Art Market
Alexis
Romano ('04) is currently attending the Bard Graduate Center for Studies
in the Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture.
Keri
Smotrich ('06) is currently the communications coordinator at the James
Michener Museum in Doylestown, PA.
Liz Carlson
('07) is attending the New School Program for theatre directing.
