 | Kelli, a new addition to the Student Health Center staff, currently studies at Loyola as a senior Biology major, with a concentration in Cellular and Molecular Biology. Future career plans include completing a Ph.D. in cancer or tumor biology and working as biomedical researcher in industry. During her academic career, Kelli has conducted research in neuroscience and immunology with projects studying the effects of a hormone involved in obesity and using the body’s immune system to better fight cancer. Kelli’s civic activities have involved efforts to help promote cultural campus diversity, leadership, and service through organizations such as ALANA’s Mentor Assistance Peer Program, International Students’ Association, Office of Student Leadership, and Tri-Beta. This year, Kelli will be helping to assemble Loyola’s Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)--designed to promote healthy practices among the student body and maximize the quality of service offered to students through the Heath Center. |
Student Health awareness Resource Program (SHARP)
The Tobacco Intervention Club (TIC) provides peer education about risks associated with smoking, secondhand smoke and the benefits of smoking cessation. TIC sponsors a variety of student activities, conducts surveys and sponsors a campus speakers' series. Club members promote the Great American Smoke Out, Kick Butts Day and New Year's Resolution drives to help students quit smoking. TIC lobbies college administrators to promote substance-free student housing and smoke-free zones on Loyola's campus. In addition to their health education efforts, TIC members host and co-sponsor social events for the Loyola community. Contact: Ruth Berger-Kline, rberger@loyola.edu, 410-617-2987.
