Loyola College is pleased to provide the availability of student health insurance. You have the option of retaining your own existing insurance policy or selecting the policy provided through the College - it is your decision! However, proof of health insurance is required annually for all undergraduate students enrolled at Loyola College. The student insurance program, which is underwritten by Aetna Life Insurance, is a student focused, affordable health insurance plan that protects students at school, at home, and while traveling or studying abroad. We expect that you will have a healthy year, but we strongly recommend that you make an informed decision about your health insurance. The 2008-2009 Loyola College Student Health Insurance Plan has strong benefit coverage and is affordable.
How Much Does it Cost? Annual Student Rate: $1,809 (effective date of policy: 8/15/08 through 8/14/09) * Spring Semester Rate: $1,130 (effective date of policy: 1/1/09 through 8/14/09)
* Note: Spring Semester enrollment is only offered to newly enrolled undergraduate students unless there is a significant life change that directly affects their insurance coverage. When applying due to a significant life change, please submit the appropriate documentation to Student Health Services providing proof of the loss. An example of a significant life change is loss of health coverage due to loss of other health insurance. Please contact Student Health Services at 410-617-5055 for additional information.
How Do I Enroll? A student health insurance selection form is sent to all students prior to the fall semester at their home address. Simply check the "yes" box on the selection form and return it to Loyola College, or if you know your Loyola student ID number, you can enroll on-line at www.loyola.edu/healthselect.html. The student health insurance fee will be charged to the tuition bill for undergraduates.
What if I am not interested in purchasing the student health insurance plan? If you are not interested in the plan, check "no" on the selection form, and provide the name and policy number of comparable coverage and return in the envelope provided, or if you know your Loyola student ID number, you can complete the on-line Selection Form at www.loyola.edu/healthselect.html. If you do not reply by the deadline given, you will automatically be enrolled in the student health insurance plan and the premium will be charged on your tuition bill. Failure to respond by the indicated deadlines will also result in a hold being put on housing, which will restrict students from moving in until they have elected the coverage or have provided proof of comparable coverage.

What is my most affordable option when I need to seek medical treatment? Student Health Care needs can best be satisfied and costs contained when an organized system of health care providers at Loyola College Student Health Center manages the treatment. If you are covered under the student health insurance plan and are eligible to use the Loyola College Student Health Center, you should first seek treatment at the health center - except in the case of an emergency. The health care providers will then refer you, if appropriate, to an outside provider.
Providers in the Maryland area Aetna Student Health has established a Preferred Provider Network that can be accessed in your local community. Additionally, national acute care facilities and mental health networks are available for covered persons if they require hospitalization outside the immediate area of the Loyola College campus. To maximize your savings and reduce out-of-pocket expenses, select a Preferred Provider. It is to your advantage to use a preferred provider because significant savings may be achieved from the substantially lower rates these providers have agreed to accept as payment for their services. A complete list of Providers can be found using The DocFind Service which is available on the Aetna Student Health website at www.aetnastudenthealth.com To learn more about the Student Insurance Plan at Loyola you may visit www.aetnastudenthealth.com for details about the plan benefits available to you.
