The 8th Annual Sexual Diversity Awareness Week March 22nd - March 27th In an attempt to effect a college environment where homophobia and hatred are replaced by understanding, acceptance, and inclusiveness, Spectrum is pleased to announce that this year's Sexual Diversity Awareness Week events will be held from Sunday, March 22nd through Friday, March 27th. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this program, Sexual Diversity Awareness Week is an annual tradition that aims to expose and discuss issues relevant to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) individuals both on the Loyola campus and in American society at large. During its first three years, the week has included such activities as On Being Gay in Non-Gay Places, the One-in-Ten t-shirt exercise in diversity, a showing of the movies Philadelphia and If These Walls Could Talk II, town hall meetings on the merits of GLBTA special interest housing and gay marriage, and guest lectures by the acclaimed bisexual activist, Robyn Ochs, and the first openly gay Major League Baseball player, Billy Bean. As members of a Jesuit institution that creates "men and women for others," we ask that you both participate in Sexual Diversity Awareness Week and encourage participation in your respective offices, departments, and classes. Doing so is essential if we as a community ever hope to foster an environment of understanding, acceptance, and equality for all. The need to eradicate hatred and homophobia at Loyola remains clear and pressing.
