Episode Three (Season Finale):
Air Date: May 3, 2002
Fate Daters: Karen and Mike
Location: The Tulip Gardens/Amazing Glaze

Episode Three was highly anticipated. Everyone was talking about the May 3rd show, whether it was “The Greyhound” or kids hanging out in the Quad. Interest skyrocketed even further when TGN began running promo’s for the Season Finale that showed host Joe Salvati driving the Fate Date Mobile “Tony Soprano” style around Baltimore.

This show was different from the rest. For one, it was filmed on a Saturday Morning as opposed to Thursday nights like the previous two dates. Second, it was director BJ Barretta’s last show before graduation. A dedicated Beach Boys fan he had the idea to incorporate Beach Boys songs with the entire episode and make an overall “Summer Spectacular” theme. Needless to say, it was the most musical show of the three.

The lucky fellow was Mike, a big man on campus, involved in many activities and known pretty well by the student body. Nice guy Mike knows so many people, the Fate Date crew worried if they were going to find him a counterpart that was a complete stranger.

Fortunately they found one of the few girls on campus Mike didn’t know. Karen a.k.a “Lizard Love” was a pretty blond haired, blue-eyed Jersey girl with a flavor for York Road partying.

The sparks weren’t there and no matter how hard Mike tried, it seemed Karen was more interested in her carton of Orange Juice, which made it through the whole show! Episode three did have one moment that will forever be cherished in Fate Date history. continuing the summer theme the date’s lunch was held on the grassy fields of Baltimore’s Tulip Garden. During the picnic a crazed fan rolled into the shot on his bike and began taunting Mike. After getting thrown off the set by Executive Producer Alan Danzis, the fan continued to buzz by the shoot on his bike screaming insults at Mike.

The date ended in disappointment for Mike. He sensed Karen’s lack of interest and admitted to the camera that he gave his all, flowers included (a Fate Date first). Karen’s only remarked that the date was fun but not what she expected.

So Fate Date went 0 for 3 in 2002. All three episodes were awesome but the crew still hasn’t reached their goal of setting up a successful couple. They have a great feeling about the prospects in 2002-03!
