PHILOSPHIAE HOUSE (a.k.a. The PHILO-LODGE)
* NEW FOR 2008-2009! *

The Philo-Lodge (from Greek, “love of learning”) is home to Honors students and other first year students who seek a supportive residential setting in which debate, intellectual inquiry and learning through diverse experiences are the order of the day.  A place where Honors and non-Honors students come together to share and discover the life of the mind, the Philo-Lodge serves as home-base for Mission: Mobtown, a Baltimore-themed scavenger hunt program and other Honors-sponsored, College-wide programs.  Special community features include common spaces that can be used for social activities and group study, trips to Baltimore’s great cultural and historical landmarks, and opportunities to meet with faculty members to discuss common interests, academic passions, and current events.  Students in the Philo-Lodge will live in a doubles-style building and a Honors Program upperclassmen serves as one of the RAs in the community.

The Philo-lodge does not require a course connection but students enrolled in the Alpha Program, FE 100 or the Honors Program are welcome to participate.  Only students who enroll in Collegium or the FE 100 Leadership Experience are not eligible for the Philo-Lodge since they are already housed with students taking common classes.  Students can sign up for the Philo-Lodge during their housing registration session at summer orientation.

The Philo-Lodge will have a Resident Assistant dedicated to facilitating the residential experience.  Only doubles style rooms are are available in this community and the exact location of of the community will be determined after the last summer orientation session.  Our goal is to match overall student interest with the buildings and/or residential floors that will help create a strong community identity for all residents.
