Please note that the application deadline for the 2008-2009 academic year has passed.  Only applications received by Feb. 18, 2008 were processed for possible approval.
Welcome! We're glad you're interested in special interest housing for 2008-2009. We're excited to announce that the Council on Special Interest Houses has recently accepted applications for 4 different student-created Special Interest Housing Options for 08-09. House descriptions are listed below and applications for each house will begin in late Feb. 2008, so check back soon! Please contact Myra McPhee at mmmcphee@loyola.edu if you have any questions regarding special interest houses.

Dawes House

Dawes House is a special interest house that promotes participating in intramural sports, health, wellness & academics. Membership to this house is limited to seniors and will work to incorporate seniors as active members of the Loyola community. This house will encourage living a healthy lifestyle while maintaining good grades. Students will learn to effectively balance their time between schoolwork and exercise. Dawes House strives to promote healthy interaction amongst peers, both in and outside of the classroom. Students will set personal fitness goals and are expected to participate in 8-10 hours of exercise a week while maintaining a 3.0 GPA.

Grady House

The purpose of Grady House is to create a learning environment and living situation for residents at Loyola who are involved in leadership on campus. It is not limited to people who hold particular titles of honor, but rather for those who strive for the qualities of excellence, respect, responsibility, and the core values of the Jesuit tradition. We strive to create an environment for leaders on campus to participate in their responsibilities while providing them with a means to enjoy life at Loyola. Population eligible: Juniors & Seniors.

Stonewall House

Stonewall house is an all-inclusive special interest housing option founded in the Jesuit tradition of men and women for others. Its mission is to provide and understanding, accepting, and nurturing environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and allied students (GLBTA). The members of Stonewall community must agree to foster open and honest campus-wide discussions about the diversity issues surrounding sexual orientation and the lives and experiences of sexual minorities.

Wellness House

The purpose of the Wellness House is to create an environment of students making healthy decisions. Students living in this house would benefit from a quiet, studious environment. The idea of this house is not to condemn drinking, but to create an alternative to it. Members of this house will have the opportunity to participate in health related events on campus as well as social activities off campus. Each member of the house will contribute to a community of encouragement to make healthy life decisions. All students are welcome, but natural science majors, peer educators, and athletes are encouraged to apply.
