Catholic Studies Program    Student Summer Research Grant

The Loyola Catholic Studies Program wishes to announce the availability of summer research grant opportunities for students of Loyola College in Maryland. Each summer research grant is made in the amount of $4,000.00 for the student, and a stipend of $1,000.00 is awarded to the faculty mentor for the research project. The summer research grant subsidizes a student’s scholarly research, writing, or artistic production that gives expression to the Roman Catholic intellectual tradition or its artistic heritage. Any undergraduate student currently enrolled at Loyola College in Maryland who is a member of the Class of 2009, the Class of 2010, or the Class of 2011 is eligible to apply for the award. Each applicant must select a faculty mentor for the summer research project and submit five completed copies of the application materials by Thursday, April 10, 2008. Application information and forms are available at the Loyola Catholic Studies Program website: www.loyola.edu/catholic/index.html.  Questions and requests for further information about the grant may be directed to Dr. Angela R. Christman (Humanities 042j; achristman@loyola.edu) in the Department of Theology.

The Loyola Catholic Studies Summer Research Grant application consists of four component parts:

(1) an application cover sheet that provides basic information about the applicant and the project;
(2) a typed research proposal of 750-1000 words in length that details the nature of the study, its purpose, and its relation to the Roman Catholic intellectual or artistic heritage;
(3) a bibliography of pertinent works or resources studied and those to be examined in scholarly research for the project; and
(4) a letter of endorsement not to exceed 500 words in length from the faculty mentor for the research project that addresses the project’s merit, the competence of the student to conduct the project, and the project’s relation to the Roman Catholic intellectual tradition or its artistic heritage.

Five copies of the application materials must be submitted to Dr. Angela Russell Christman in the Department of Theology by 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 10, 2008.
