
The Loyola Catholic Studies Program operates under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences of Loyola College in Maryland, who appoints a Director, or co-Directors, of the Program to a three year term of office. The Director or co-Directors report to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, who approves the annual budget of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program, consults with the Director or co-Directors regarding the enterprises of the Program, and is advised of the policies and practices undertaken by the Loyola Catholic Studies Program. The responsibilities of the Director or co-Directors of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program include oversight of the Catholic Studies Minor, promotion of the development of Catholic Studies courses, selection of new courses for inclusion in the Catholic Studies Minor, organization of the various lecture series sponsored by the Loyola Catholic Studies Program, coordination of the Catholic Studies Program film series, arrangement of the numerous cultural events sponsored by the Catholic Studies Program, preparation and allocation of all financial and budgetary aspects of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program, encouragement of the advocacy of the Roman Catholic intellectual heritage among all members of the Loyola College community, conduct of the annual review of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program and its accomplishments, as well as administration the biennial elections of members to the Loyola Catholic Studies Program Executive Committee. In the case of a co-directorship of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program, responsibility for the particular undertakings and operations of the Program will be shared or divided between the co-Directors in accordance with their respective talents and fields of expertise. The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences will offer compensation to the Director(s) of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program appropriate to the scope of the Program’s agenda for an academic year. Loyola Catholic Studies Program Executive Committee To assist the Catholic Studies Program Director(s), in respect of formulating the annual agenda for the Program and discharging it, an Executive Committee for the Loyola Catholic Studies Program will be constituted by the election of four persons from the participating members of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program. Participating members of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program include all faculty who teach a course regularly in conjunction with the Catholic Studies Minor, as well as those members of the faculty and the wider Loyola College community who actively enhance the cultivation of the Roman Catholic heritage at Loyola College in Maryland. To teach a course regularly in conjunction with the Catholic Studies Minor is to offer an approved Catholic Studies Minor course at least once every four academic semesters. Participating members who actively enhance the cultivation of the Roman Catholic heritage at Loyola College are those faculty who conspicuously encourage attention to the Roman Catholic tradition through constructive participation in Loyola Catholic Studies Program events. A list of participating members is available annually on the Loyola Catholic Studies Program web page. Members of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program Executive Committee serve four year terms of office, with half of the members being elected or reelected every two years. Election to the Executive Committee requires a simple majority of the votes cast by the participating members of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program. Prior to each biennial election, a period of time will be designated for the nomination or self-nomination of participating members for election to service on the Loyola Catholic Studies Program Executive Committee. The dates for the nominating period and the date for the election will be determined and promulgated by the Director(s) of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program. The Executive Committee of the Program is chaired, ex officio, by the (co-)Director(s) of the Loyola Catholic Studies Program.
