In addition to the agencies where we send volunteers for regular service opportunities, CCSJ works with agencies that address other aspects of social change and justice. See the listing below to find out about other opportunities. The partnership was born in the fall of 1992, when Loyola and the Beans & Bread Meal Program and Outreach Center joined resources to open the Meal Program one additional day per month on the last Sunday of each month. In the spring of 1998, Frederick Ozanam House and outreach services began in the refurbished building next to Beans & Bread. Since then, the Loyola community has been very involved in FOH services and activities. Our communities joyfully unite in faith and in partnership to follow the example of Jesus to create a more just and compassionate world. Motivated by love and united by respect, we work together to meet the diverse and changing needs of persons in the Fells Point area. We recognize that all of us are both learners and teachers and that no single person or group knows all the answers. We initiate programs that respond to the expressed and unexpressed needs of our community and contribute to the physical, spiritual, emotional and/or educational well-being of all who participate. We listen to God’s voice and see God’s face in all people. We believe that the mutuality inherent in our interaction with each other enhances the quality of life for each and has the potential to deepen and transform the spirituality of all.

CCSJ has a close affiliation with the Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation (GEDCO), a faith-based, nonprofit organization specializing in the development and operation of affordable housing and supportive services. GEDCO operates two senior housing buildings, group homes for persons with mental disabilities, permanent housing for formerly homeless men and women and a supportive services program at a housing site for formerly homeless men and women. GEDCO is also the lead developer for Stadium Place, at the former site of Memorial Stadium, where one new building holds 72 residential units and more homes are being built that will include senior housing, a recreation facility and an interfaith center. As a church- and community-based organization, GEDCO also operates CARES (Civic and Religious Emergency Services), a center providing emergency food, counseling, referrals and financial assistance. About 40 congregations and community groups located in the North Baltimore area support CARES through volunteer assistance, food drives and financial contributions. See the alphabetical listing of service agencies for more information about service opportunities at GEDCO’s programs: CARES, Gallagher Mansion and Harford House.
