Graduate Student Involvement in Community Service

At Loyola University, the motto "men and women for and with others" refers not only to the undergraduate students, but to graduate student and all members of the Loyola community. The institution's commitment to service and justice includes students, staff, faculty and administrators as we work together to develop patterns of life-long service and work for justice. The Center for Community Service and Justice invites graduate students to explore the "service options" listed under the headings on the left of this page. Begin at "getting started" to find out how to get involved. All are welcomed!

Some opportunities for graduate students in particular include:

Immersion Programs

  • UNITE (Urban Needs Introduced Through Experience)

Participate or serve as a Moderator to help run the activities, facilitate discussion and manage logistics of a weekend immersion in Baltimore City.

  • SBO (Spring Break Outreach)

Spend spring break week immersed in a community with a small group of students, engaged in service and learning about the issues, concerns and strengths of local residents.

Participate in a solidarity immersion in El Salvador, learning about the history, economics, politics and life stories of the people in this Central American country.

Service Opportunities during Holidays and Summer

Help keep our Last Sunday at Beans and Bread and Care-A-Van programs running during the breaks when students leave campus.

Social Justice Education Program

Attend one of our many programs or workshops about social justice issues both domestic and international.
