2012 Project Mexico/Encounter El Salvador Auction
Join the broader Loyola community in a great annual tradition...
Project Mexico has become a great Loyola tradition, embodying Loyola's mission of service and justice-oriented education of women and men for and with others. This year, 20 Loyola sophomores, juniors and seniors, along with two faculty/staff/administrators, will travel to the Mexicali/San Diego area of Mexico from January 2nd - 11th, 2013. They will work and live with materially impoverished but culturally and spiritually enriched Mexican border communities.
Encounter El Salvador has joined in this fundraising auction since 2002. This immersion trip also lives out the Jesuit mission and core values. It includes undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty, staff and administrators. They will travel to El Salvador from May 21st - May 30th, 2013, and spend most of their time in the capital San Salvador but also spend a weekend in the countryside, living with the people. This, too, is an educational trip and a service of presence, listening and learning from the people we meet as they struggle for a more just society.
The Project Mexico/Encounter El Salvador Auction's annual fundraising goal for is over $20,000. The majority of our fundraising comes from the auction, scheduled this year for Thursday, November 16th from 5 - 8 p.m. in McGuire Hall, located in the Andrew White Student Center at Loyola. We depend on the contributions of community merchants to provide goods or services to auction off to the campus and local community. We also depend on the collaboration and involvement of the Loyola University community to offer interesting auction items as well. Last year’s auction raised over $25,000 and drew a crowd of several hundred. All merchants and donors are listed in the Auction booklet and are announced as the item is bid upon.
Past donations have included bikes, electronics equipment, videos and media, music, tickets of all kinds, kitchen items, appliances, toys, books, gift certificates, computer software and hardware, services, sports equipment, jewelry, crafts, sports or music lessons, framed prints and more. Please consider making a donation of a good or service, or purchasing an advertisement space in our auction booklet or contributing a donation that would qualify you as a major sponsor of the auction or of the trip.
Many departments or offices sponsor the auction and we recognize your gift in our auction booklet. Any donation, no matter how large or small, will bring us closer to our goal of opening our minds and hearts to global realities while contributing needed services to the communities of the Mexican border region.
All donations are tax-deductible and all proceeds directly support the program and the Mexican and Salvadoran communities with whom we work. Checks may be made payable to Loyola University Project Mexico and mailed to the address listed below. A designated portion of the proceeds do go to the Encounter El Salvador budget. Donations of goods or services may be mailed to us, or feel free to call us and we will pick them up.
Thank you for any contribution you can make, and feel free to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you!
