Mission Statement: The mission of JustArt is to provide the Loyola community with opportunities to reflect on issues of social justice and faith through artistic expression.

October 2007 Exhibit:

Each year, Loyola hosts the St. Ambrose summer camp on campus.  This summer, with help from a Year of the City grant, volunteers from Technology Services offered digital photography lessons to the campers and helped them work on their picture-taking skills.  Some of the photos taken during the summer on display in the JustArt gallery.

The photojournalistic essay,
"From Fresh Yak's Milk to Packaged Cow's Milk:
Cross-Pollination Between Modern Urban China and Nomadic Tibet,"
documents the artists journey with immigrants
from Tibet to China last summer.
This exhibit was presented as part of the 2006
Summer Justice Scholars Grant which the artist
received last summer to help support his project.

A total of 5 students conducted research
through the grant program during
the summer of 2006
and presented the results
when they returned to campus.
Most presentations took the form of
small roundtable discussions with faculty,administrators,

23 March - 21 April 2006 Exhibit:

"FACING KATRINA"

Meet the Artist...

Daniel Schlapbach
Associate Professor of Fine Art at Loyola College in Maryland

"I have been photographing for nearly thirty years. In that time I have learned that there is an inherent tension between the perception that photographs are simultaneously deceptive and truthful. This relationship makes photography a wonderful tool for personal expression and social change. In past projects I have tried to explore both sides of this photographic coin by creating fictional and documentary series of photographs. These works have been exhibited throughout the country in numerous galleries and museums."
