What are Immersion Programs?

Loyola immersion programs give volunteers the opportunity to walk for awhile in someone else’s shoes. Joining with local community members, participants learn about service and social justice, and gain a broader understanding and appreciation for people who may be different economically, racially/ethnically, and/or culturally from themselves. Immersion into another way of life brings awareness of systemic problems or root causes that make service necessary, and invigorates participants to return to Loyola better able to create change in their community.
