The 2008 Auction

Join the broader Loyola community in a great annual tradition...

Thursday, November 20th from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. in McGuire Hall.

Project Mexico has become a great Loyola tradition, embodying Loyola's mission of service and justice-oriented education of women and men for and with others. This year twenty Loyola Sophomores, juniors, and seniors, along with two faculty/staff/  administrators, will travel to Tijuana and Tecate from Dec.31 - Jan.9 They are going to work and live with materially impoverished but culturally and spiritually enriched Mexican border communities.

Encounter El Salvador has joined in this fundraising auction since 2002. This immersion trip also lives out the Jesuit mission and core values. It includes undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty/staff/and administrators. They will travel to El Salvador from May 19 - 28, 2007 and spend most of their time in the capital San Salvador but also spend a weekend in the countryside, living with the people. This too is an educational trip and a service of presence listening and learning from the people we meet as they struggle for a more just society.

Our annual fundraising goal for is over $20,000. The majority of our fundraising comes from the Auction, scheduled this year for Thursday, November 20th in McGuire Hall in the Andrew White Student Center at Loyola College. We depend on the contributions of community merchants to provide goods or services to auction off to the campus and local community. We also depend on the collaboration and involvement of the Loyola college community to offer interesting suction items as well. Last year’s auction raised over $20,000 and drew a crowd of several hundred. All merchants and donors are listed in the Auction booklet and are announced as the item is bid upon.

Past donations have included bikes, electronics equipment, videos and media, music, tickets of all kinds, kitchen items, appliances, toys, books, gift certificates, computer software and hardware, services, sports equipment, jewelry, crafts, sports or music lessons, framed prints, and more. Please consider making a donation of a good or service, or purchasing an advertisement space in our auction booklet or contributing a donation that would qualify you as a major sponsor of the auction or of the trip.

Many departments or offices sponsor the auction and we post your group on the auction tables. Any donation, no matter how large or small, will bring us closer to our goal of opening our minds and hearts to global realities while contributing needed services to the communities of the Mexican border region.

All donations are tax-deductible and all proceeds directly support the program and the Mexican and Salvadoran communities with whom we work. Checks may be made payable to Loyola College Project Mexico  and mailed to the address listed below. A designated portion of the proceeds do go to the Encuentra El Salvador budget. Donations of goods or services may be mailed to us, or feel free to call us and we will pick them up.

Thank you for any contribution you can make, and feel free to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you!
