General

o   League of Women Voters: http://www.lwv.org  

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan citizens’ organization that fights to improve the U.S. government and engage all citizens in the decisions that impact their lives. Formed from the movement that secured the right to vote for women, the centerpiece of the League’s efforts remain to expand participation and give a voice to all Americans. As a non-partisan organization, the League does not support or oppose candidates for public office.

National Public Radio's economics team that produces a twice-weekly podcast and creates radio stories for Morning Edition, All Things Considered and This American Life, and writes a blog.

Federal Budget

o   Congressional Budget Office: http://www.cbo.gov/

The Congressional Budget Office produces independent, nonpartisan, timely analysis of economic and budgetary issues to support the Congressional budget process. The agency's long tradition of nonpartisanship is evident in each of the dozens of reports and hundreds of cost estimates its economists and policy analysts produce each year. CBO analyses do not make policy recommendations, and each report and cost estimate discloses our assumptions and methodologies.

 A collaboration of Christian, Jewish, Muslim and other faith communities and organizations, The Faithful Budget promotes comprehensive and compassionate budget principles that helps lift the burden on the poor, rather than increasing it while shielding the wealthiest from any additional sacrifice.

Poverty/Safety Net Programs

The Catholic bishops of the United States believe building a just economy that works for all encompasses a wide range of issues, including food security and hunger,work and joblessness, homelessness and affordable housing, and tax credits for low-income families, as well as protecting programs that serve poor and vulnerable people throughout the federal budget.

he Center on Budget and Policy Priorities is one of the nation’s premier policy organizations working at the federal and state levels on fiscal policy and public programs that affect low- and moderate-income families and individuals.

Hunger and Homelessness

o   Food Research and Action Center: www.frac.org

The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) is a national nonprofit organization working to improve public policies and public-private partnerships to eradicate hunger and undernutrition in the United States.

o   National Alliance to End Homelessness: http://www.endhomelessness.org/

The National Alliance to End Homelessness is a nonprofit, non-partisan, organization committed to preventing and ending homelessness in the United States. By improving policy, building capacity, and educating opinion leaders, the Alliance has become a leading voice on this issue.

Immigration

The Migration Policy Institute is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank in Washington, DC dedicated to analysis of the movement of people worldwide. MPI provides analysis, development, and evaluation of migration and refugee policies at the local, national, and international levels. It aims to meet the rising demand for pragmatic and thoughtful responses to the challenges and opportunities that large-scale migration, whether voluntary or forced, presents to communities and institutions in an increasingly integrated world.

The primary objectives of the JFI campaign are: To educate the public, especially the Catholic community, including Catholic public officials, about Church teaching on migration and immigrants; To create political will for positive immigration reform; To enact legislative and administrative reforms based on the principles articulated by the bishops; and to organize Catholic networks to assist qualified immigrants obtain the benefits of the reforms.

Foreign policy

The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) is a broad-based influential network of 400 businesses and NGOs; national security and foreign policy experts; and business, faith-based, academic and community leaders in all 50 states who support a smart power approach of elevating diplomacy and development alongside defense in order to build a better, safer world.

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is an independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher.

Foreign aid

Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation's leaders to end hunger at home and abroad.

The Center for Global Development works to reduce global poverty and inequality through rigorous research and active engagement with the policy community to make the world a more prosperous, just, and safe place for us all. A nimble, independent, nonpartisan, and nonprofit think tank, CGD combines world-class research with policy analysis and innovative communications to turn ideas into action.

LGBT

Spectrum is an all-inclusive group founded in the Jesuit tradition of men and women for others. It fosters open and honest discussion about the diverse issues surrounding sexual orientation and sexual minorities, and does so with an educative intent. Spectrum hopes to impact the college community so that homophobia and hatred are replaced by understanding, acceptance, and inclusiveness, and desires to see at Loyola a world of appreciation that benefits each and every human life.

A leader in health policy analysis, health journalism and communication, the Kaiser Family Foundation is dedicated to filling the need for trusted, independent information on the major health issues facing our nation and its people.  Kaiser is a non-profit, private operating foundation focusing on the major health care issues facing the U.S.

Education

The Education Trust promotes high academic achievement for all students at all levels—pre-kindergarten through college. It works alongside educators, parents, students, policymakers, and civic and business leaders in communities across the country, providing practical assistance. It analyzes local, state, and national data and participates actively in national and state policy debates.

The Urban Institute builds knowledge about the nation’s social and fiscal challenges, practicing open-minded, evidence-based research to diagnose problems and figure out which policies and programs work best, for whom, and how.

Environment

o   League of Conservation Voters: http://www.lcv.org/

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is a national non-profit organization that works to turn environmental values into national priorities. To secure the environmental future of our planet, LCV advocates for sound environmental policies, elects pro-environment candidates who will adopt and implement such policies, and provides state LCVs with the resources and tools to accomplish and sustain their mission.

o   World Resources Institute: http://www.wri.org/

WRI is a global environmental think tank for policy research and analysis. We work with governments, companies, and civil society to build solutions to urgent environmental challenges.
