Choosing a community service site

Questions to Ask:

  • What am I looking for in a community service experience?
  • What population(s) do I wish to serve (e.g. children, senior citizens, differently abled persons, women/men who are homeless, illiterate adults)?
  • In what kind of setting do I wish to serve (e.g. shelter, classroom, community center, office, outdoors)?
  • What are my needs, interests, preferences, motivations in seeking community service experiences?
  • What are my career goals? How would service experiences support my goals and prepare me?
  • What kind of commitment in terms of time and frequency do I wish to make? Do I want to be involved in a one time event or a regular weekly commitment? Which days/times are best for me?
  • Where is God calling me to serve?
