Other One-Time Service Opportunities

In addition to events organized by the Community Service Council, the Center for Community Service and Justice offers the following One-Time Service Opportunities:

“Meet & Eat” Contact Person:  Jennifer Vigario X 2989
Held every semester, this educational and fun event brings together the Loyola College community and the Baltimore community to allow people from different backgrounds to share a meal and celebrate together. Loyola student and faculty/administration/staff members are invited to host guests from community agencies affiliated with Loyola. The fall “Meet & Eat” is scheduled during November, and the spring “Meet & Eat” in March is for women, in honor of Women’s History Month.

Presence for Christmas Contact Person:  Dennis McCunney X 2909
The Sophomore Class and the Center for Community Service and Justice have been co-sponsoring the “Presence for Christmas” program for nearly 15 years. The Loyola College community (faculty, staff, administrators and student groups) adopts approximately 75 families each year and provides a food basket and presents for each family member.

In addition, gifts are given to over 300 individual children and several large "superstores" (gift giving programs) are coordinated by local communities. Recipient nametags are distributed in November to the college community at the Sunday Masses (in the chapel) and Primo’s and Boulder cafes. The wrapped gifts are received at “Lessons and Carols” an Advent/Christmas service in Early December.  All of the “adopted” families and children are associated with the many community partners and programs with which Loyola volunteers work during the year.

Holiday Gift Fair, Grateful Gifts Contact Person: Carol Cyphers X 2489
The Holiday Gift fair, formerly known as, Grateful Gifts is Loyola’s annual craft fair that brings local entrepreneurs to campus to sell their products. At the same time, it provides an opportunity for meaningful holiday gift giving for members of the Loyola community. Past participants in the fair have included the Caroline Center, Women Entrepreneurs of Baltimore (WEB), Inc., and CCSJ. The fair is held during the first week of December and is co-sponsored by Human Resources who sell crafts made by Loyola employees.

Good Stuff Campaign Contact Person:  Dennis McCunney X 2909
The annual Good Stuff Campaign provides Loyola students with an opportunity to live out Loyola’s mission by donating their clothing, dishes, small appliances, and unopened food to local agencies. Each year, thousands of donations are collected and donated to these agencies. The program is particularly helpful to graduating seniors as they move out of the residence halls immediately after Commencement. Donation boxes are located in each residence hall and drop off locations are set up around campus during Senior Week. Vans and trucks accepting donations are available near dumpsters on graduation day. Volunteers are needed during the first weeks of May to collect, sort and deliver items.
