CSC is comprised of representatives from each of the residence halls on campus from all class years. We meet about once every two weeks, in addition to specific event committee meetings, to plan these events and discuss how to encourage others to get involved.
Mission Statement:
The members of the Community Service Council (CSC) strive to uphold the Jesuit tradition of being and creating "men and women for and with others." Our organization brings Loyola students together with the Baltimore community through a series of one-time events on our own campus. CSC members will develop leadership skills and a sense of solidarity with those in need by organizing and participating in these on-campus service events. We aspire to bring a positive experience of service to all members of our college community so they may experience joy and growth that results from serving others. In being a part of students' first exposure to service at Loyola College, CSC will serve as the catalyst for lifelong action and dedication to service.
Fall and Spring Blood Drives A campus wide blood drive is coordinated with the American Red Cross once each semester. Volunteers help with publicizing these drives, signing up donors, and working at the canteen on the day of the drive.
Trick or Treating Students from Baltimore City middle schools and other after-school programs with whom Loyola students work come to Loyola to Trick or Treat. The event is very special for them because what we provide may be the only experience of "Trick or Treating" they are able to have. Volunteers on residence floors can make a big difference in these children's enjoyment of Halloween by simply being enthusiastic and welcoming them with candy and decorations.
Halloween Carnival This festive event gives the residents of Gallagher Services - a center that works with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities - an opportunity to celebrate Halloween and to experience being on a college campus. Volunteers organize activities and pair up with our guests from Gallagher Services to help them participate in the crafts tables, face painting stations and games.
Senior Citizens PromEach February, senior citizen housing and activity agencies in the community are invited to campus for an afternoon of music and dancing. The CSC transforms McGuire Hall into a dance hall complete with decorations, food, favors and music. Highlights of the afternoon include “Mr. Dance Band”, a 19 piece jazz band and the crowning of the king and queen of the prom!
Easter Extravaganza Baltimore city school children enjoy the Trick or Treating so much that they can't wait to come back in the spring! This after school event is full of Easter crafts, games and candy to provide an afternoon of fun for Guilford Elementary School students, who range in grade from Kindergarten through third grade.
Special Olympics Coordinated in conjunction with Loyola’s Development of Recreational Sports, the event allows Special Olympics athletes from all over Maryland to take advantage of our wonderful athletic facility for a swimming event. Volunteers escort the athletes to their proper places, assist with timing, scorekeeping, and announcing, and the presentation of awards.
End of Semester Food and Clothing Drives These events provide students with the opportunity to make good use of all their “extras” when cleaning out their apartments before winter and summer breaks. Volunteers are needed to publicize the events and to collect and deliver donations.
