Each year in the fall the faculty of the Department of Classics offers a one day seminar for teachers of Classics (usually at the high school and junior high or middle school level). Our participants have come from Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania, and teach in public, independent and church-affiliated schools. This gathering allows participants to make contact, compare notes and interact with colleagues at other schools and with our faculty. During the seminar our department members offer a series of presentations and workshops based on our own research that participants can easily use in their own classes: we supply handouts, slides, transparencies, bibliographies and tapes to make the material interesting, accessible and easy to integrate. Some topics treated in past years include: Gladiatorial Combat; Ancient Magic; Ancient Sacrifice; Catullus' Lesbia. Continuing education credit is available to those interested.
Regrettably, sabbatical leaves make us unable in Fall 2005 to run our Seminar for Teachers of Classics. When we resume the seminar, we will advertise it widely. If you have any questions, Pleas contact Professor Taylor at (410) 617-2636.
