Economics Seminar: Thursday, January 23, 2014

On Thursday, January 23, the economics department and the Adam Smith Society will host a special seminar by Loyola economics alum, Professor Robert Malko (Department of Economics at Utah State) on "Regulation of Utilities in the 21st" century. The talk will be from 12:15-1:30pm in the Sellinger VIP Lounge.  Lunch will be provided.

Dr. Malko has served on the Board of Directors of the Society of Utility and Regulatory Financial Analysts and has served as president of this organization between 1988 and 1990 and vice president between 2004 and 2006. He serves as a faculty associate for the Institute of Public Utilities at Michigan State University. He has served on the Board of Directors of the National Regulatory Research Institute at the Ohio State University between 1997 and 2003. He has also served as chair (1993-94) of the Transportation and Public Utilities Group of the American Economic Association. Earlier (1975-77 and 1981-86) Dr. Malko served as chief economist at the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. He has published over 150 peer reviewed papers in economics and finance.

Dr. Malko received a B.S. degree with honors in mathematics and economics from Loyola College (Baltimore, Maryland) and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in economics from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University.

"Having a Career On Wall Street" Presentation

Next week, Thursday, October 24th at 5:30 pm in McGuire, we will have five alums coming to talk about "Having a Career on Wall Street."  This should be an excellent session; the alums represent all of the big firms, and again, they hire students from all disciplines.  The firms are hiring for internships and permanent employment.  Business professional attire and resumes are appropriate.

Morgan Stanley: Operations Analyst Program Presentation

Morgan Stanley will be on campus on Wednesday, October 23rd at 5:00 PM for a panel presentation to discuss Morgan Stanley’s Operations Full-Time Analyst Program and to provide students with an opportunity to network with Morgan Stanley representatives. They are looking for seniors from all majors who are graduating either 
December 2013 or May 2014  with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Annual Economics Alumni Dinner

The Adam Smith Economics Society of Loyola University Maryland cordially invites economics majors to attend our Annual Economics Alumni Dinner. This year's event will be held on Thursday, November 8th, 2012 at Chazz in Harbor East. As you may recall from previous dinners, it is always an excellent opportunity for students, faculty, and alumni to network and reminisce. We sincerely hope you will be able to join us in the festivities. 

This year we have a special opportunity for students to visit Brown Advisory in Fells Point before the dinner. Mr. Thomas Graff (Economics major, class of 1999) will be our host and will speak about careers in the financial sector and provide some valuable job market advice.
