Computer Science Boot Camp JULY 6 - jULY 30, 2010 REGISTRATION CLOSED This summer, the Computer Science Department of Loyola University Maryland will offer a four-week "boot camp" for individuals looking to change careers to computer science and software development. Participants will learn foundations of computer science, including fundamental Java programming and elements of discrete mathematics. Successful students should gain the background necessary to apply for entry level jobs in computing and I.T. or pursue advanced educational options such as Loyola's Master's degree in Computer Science. The boot camp, partially subsidized by a grant from the State of Maryland, will cost each participant only $500. Textbooks will be provided at no cost. The boot camp will be offered on an in-person basis at Loyola's state-of-art Columbia, Maryland graduate center five days per week, eight hours per day, during the four-week period starting July 6. (Four days the first week, for a total of 19 days.) The boot camp is restricted to approximately 20 seats to maintain a low student to faculty ratio. Much of the instruction will be given on a hands-on, project-oriented basis. The State of Maryland grant that makes this activity possible is aimed at strengthening the state's workforce in support of BRAC (Base Realignment and Closing). Prospective participants do not have to be connected to a BRAC-related agency or contractor to apply. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in any field from a recognized university. Individual and corporate inquiries are welcome at inquiry@cs.loyola.edu, or contact Lewis Berman at (410) 617-2587. Seats are filling up! Click the link below to apply. |
