All students must complete at least one course at or above the Intermediate II level in a modern or classical language to complete Loyola's core curriculum. Loyola uses placement tests to ensure that sudents are placed into language courses appropriate to their level of competancy. All students must complete the language placement test for the language that (s)he studied in high school by May 30, 2014 so that (s)he can register for a language course during registration at summer orientation.  Incoming students may complete the language placement exam from home. No outside books or other resources can be used while taking these exams.

First year or transfer students arriving at Loyola who are interested in continuing with their Japanese studies at Loyola should contact the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at 410-617-2780 to schedule an individual placement exam.
