Welcome, Class of 2028!

Congratulations, and welcome to Loyola University Maryland! The Academic Advising and Support Center (AASC) team is excited to begin working with you this summer as you prepare for your first semester at Loyola. Please be sure to review the important information on this page about placement testing, class registration, and transfer credits (AP, IB, College Course Credit).

If you have any questions related to academics at Loyola, please do not hesitate to reach out.  Our AASC staff is available Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (EST). You can email us at aasc@loyola.edu or call us at 410-617-5050.

Preparing for Summer Orientation

Loyola’s orientation marks the beginning of your journey through the academic curriculum.  The Academic Advising and Support Center will pre-register you for some of your fall classes based on your responses to the Messina survey and your intended major (if provided). You will then have the opportunity to meet virtually with your Messina advisor in late June/early July to review your pre-registered courses and complete your fall schedule. Your Messina advisor will offer course recommendations based on your intended major or interests and offer valuable advice regarding scheduling and your first semester at Loyola.

Careful preparation before you come to campus will enable you to make good decisions while you are here. The links below will guide you through this process.

The Loyola Curriculum and Course Planning

Education in the liberal arts is central to the mission of Loyola University Maryland. The liberal arts core curriculum encompasses a variety of courses in the humanities, natural and social sciences, fine arts, and mathematics.

Registration

Registration is an important part of summer orientation. The AASC administrators will pre-register you for Messina courses and introductory major-level courses. You will register for the rest of your courses through Student Planning with the guidance of faculty advisors and AASC administrators.

Placement Testing

Placement testing in mathematical sciences and world languages is conducted to ensure that you are placed into courses appropriate for your level of competence.

AP, IB, A-Levels, and College Course Credit

Loyola awards credit for AP, IB, A-Levels, and college courses if they meet the standards and requirements set by the University and its academic departments. In order to qualify for credit, students must have official scores and transcripts sent to Loyola.
