Evensong, or evening prayer, takes place every Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Alumni Chapel. It provides the community with an opportunity to come together in song and prayer. Each week a member from the Loyola community gives a reflection about their own faith or spiritual journey. Free pizza always follows in Cohn Hall 133 for fellowship and conversation.
For over 20 years, Evening Prayer has been a tradition here at Loyola University Maryland. Open to all Christian communities, Evensong is a gathering where we give thanks to God for all of the blessings of our day through song and prayer. The earliest tradition has its origin in the early Anglican Church, where evening prayer would begin with a hymn of praise and lighting of lamps as darkness fell. Prayers of intercession and the offering of incense are central elements in the Evensong service. As the day ends, we lift up to God the needs and sorrows of the world. Together, let us be mindful of all the gifts and blessings God has given us this day and this week.
