Mass or Eucharist, lies at the heart of who we are and what we believe as Catholic Christians; it is the “source and summit of our faith," and the font from which all our actions flow (Lumen Gentium 11).

Loyola’s Mass of the Holy Spirit

Sunday, September 13 at 12:00 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Chapel

The annual Mass of the Holy Spirit is an opportunity for the entire Loyola University Maryland community to gather in prayer at the beginning of the academic year.

This Mass is part of a long tradition dating from the founding of the great European colleges and universities. These institutions would celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit at the start of a new school year. For Jesuit universities, it is a tradition almost as old as the Society of Jesus itself; tracing its roots to the first Jesuit school in Messina, Sicily in 1548.

Following this tradition, we call on God's Spirit for inspiration as we begin our new academic year. This festive event gathers the entire University community together to rededicate itself to Loyola's mission, to renew friendships, and to welcome new members.

All members of the University Community are invited to attend the Mass and the Campus Picnic immediately following on the Quad.
