Greetings!

The Center for Innovation in Urban Education (CIUE) was founded by our late, beloved colleague, Dr. Peter Murrell. In addition to his work on African-centered education, Peter’s deep belief in community-rootedness fueled his vision for higher education as a resource in service of urban schools’ success. We are thrilled and humbled to take up his mantle, and we are committed to serving urban schools through our work at the CIUE.

To that end, this year, we are hosting the inaugural Peter Murrell Memorial Symposium in October. We are also developing a community advisory board that will assist the CIUE in identifying key areas in Baltimore ripe for significant research and work. To request more information about our community advisory board or anything else about the CIUE, contact us at ciue@loyola.edu. The CIUE will also soon host professional development for educators focused on race, culture, and urban schooling.

Our vision is for the work of the CIUE to lead to transformation of education policy and practice throughout Baltimore. We hope you will work with us to make this happen.

Peace,

Camika Royal, Ph.D. and Vanessa Dodo Seriki, Ph.D.
