Individual Counseling

In individual counseling, a student meets weekly or bi-weekly with a counselor to explore emotional, social, or educational concerns. Goals of individual counseling may include resolving problems, adjusting to new or challenging life circumstances, improving academic skills, enhancing relationships, and increasing life satisfaction. The Counseling Center provides individual counseling based on a brief, short-term model to effectively manage demands for services. Some students experience longer-standing challenges which are most fully addressed in more open-ended counseling than the Counseling Center can provide. When off-campus therapy is recommended or preferred by students, the student care coordinator can provide several referrals selected specifically for you and your personal situation. This assistance may include helping you to access your health insurance options and providing you with names of counselors whom you can contact to decide which one you prefer.
