Application Procedures for First-Year Applicants

Merit-Based Scholarships

All applicants for admission will be considered for merit-based academic scholarship awards, provided their application for admission is complete by the Early Decision filing deadline of November 1, 2014, or the Early Action filing deadline of November 15, 2014, or the Regular Decision filing deadline of January 15, 2015.  A separate scholarship application is not required.

Students who are accepted for admission under the Early Decision, Early Action, and Regular Decision programs will be notified of their eligibility for a non-need-based merit scholarship award with the admission decision.

Need-Based Financial Aid

All applicants for admission will be considered for need-based financial aid in the form of grants, loans, and work-study provided the family files the 2015-16 CSS PROFILE Application and the 2015-16 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The information collected on the CSS PROFILE Application is used by Loyola University to determine a student's eligibility for institutionally-funded forms of financial aid.  The information collected on the FAFSA will be used to determine eligibility for federal forms of financial aid.

Parents' and Student's 2014 Federal Tax Returns

Your 2014 Federal Tax Return and your parents’ 2014 Federal Tax Return information will be used to verify the financial information reported on the FAFSA and PROFILE. Loyola participates in the College Board’s Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) to collect parent and student tax return forms. After you file the PROFILE Application, the College Board will send you complete instructions for submitting your Federal Tax Return forms. Submit your tax return information to the College Board's Institutional Documentation Service no later than March 5, 2015.

2015-16 CSS Non-Custodial Parent PROFILE

If you indicate on the CSS PROFILE Application that your parents are divorced, separated, or were never married, your non-custodial parent must complete the CSS Non-Custodial PROFILE. You will be sent an email which will contain a link and login instructions for the Non-Custodial PROFILE website. Forward this information to your non-custodial parent.

2015-16 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Complete the FAFSA online at https://fafsa.ed.gov. You and your parent must have a Federal Personal Identification Number (PIN) to electronically sign the FAFSA. You many obtain a PIN while completing the FAFSA, or at the Federal PIN website. Loyola University's FAFSA Code Number is 002078. The FAFSA on the Web Worksheet provides a preview of the questions that you may be asked while completing the FAFSA online.

The best way to provide accurate income information on the FAFSA is by opting to use the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Data Retrieval Tool. This process allows eligible applicants and parents to retrieve tax return data from the IRS. Applicants who choose not to use this process may be required to provide an IRS tax return transcript to Loyola's Office of Financial Aid to verify income information provided on the FAFSA. Federal verification is a process required by the U.S. Department of Education to verify the accuracy of the information parents and students submit on the FAFSA.  Learn more about federal verification here.

Social Security Number Requirement

Provide your Social Security number to the Office of Undergraduate Admission. On the Common Application, enter your SSN in the "Profile" section under the "Citizenship" tab. On the Loyola University Maryland Application, enter your SSN in the "Personal Information" section.

Your SSN is a primary identifier and is required to assure the accurate electronic transmission of the data you supply on the CSS PROFILE Application and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to your Loyola University Maryland student record. Your SSN along with all other personally identifiable information included in your student record will not be disclosed by the University without your consent or as allowed by federal and state law.

Financial Aid Eligibility Notification Dates

Early Decision Admission Applicants
Students who are accepted for admission under the Early Decision program and who meet the November 1, 2014, CSS PROFILE Application filing deadline will be provided with a preliminary financial aid eligibility estimate by December 15, 2014. Need-based financial aid decisions will not be final until Loyola University receives the results of the 2015-16 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the parents' and student's 2014 Federal Tax Return information via the College Board's Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC).


Early Action and Regular Decision Admission Applicants

Students who are accepted for admission under the Early Action program and who meet the February 15, 2015, need-based aid filing deadline will be notified of their eligibility for need-based financial aid no later than March 15, 2015.

Students who are accepted for admission under the Regular Decision program and who meet the February 15, 2015, need-based aid filing deadline will be notified of their eligibility for need-based financial aid no later than April 10, 2015

All need-based financial aid decisions are subject to revision based on the receipt of 2014 Federal Tax Return information and the completion of the federal and institutional verification process.
