Graduate Assistant: Student Engagement - Leadership Programs

Department The Office of Student Engagement creates transformational learning experiences that support and cultivate the development of students in transition, and aims to inspire and challenge all students to be civically minded leaders in their community.
Position 

Student Engagement has three Graduate Assistants that work with the various aspects of the department (class year & discernment, leadership development, and orientation programs).

Hours & Wages

The position is a 10 month contract with compensation of $13,500 annually. Compensation can be divided between tuition remission and a stipend.

Applicants must be able to commit to a schedule of 20 hours per week, with most hours occurring during the 9am-5pm Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

Must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at Loyola University Maryland

Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail

Willingness to work with and mentor undergraduate students

Experience and comfort with facilitating and presenting to groups, organizing, and/or planning programs/events

Demonstrated initiative, self-accountability, creativity and willingness to try new things in a team environment

Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel

Responsibilities
  1. Advising & Helping:
    1. Facilitate small group meetings with various student groups, lead small individual/small group reflections, one-on-one mentoring with student leaders and/or students in transition
    2. Assist students in connecting to campus resources and programs, serve as a referral source for students in transition
    3. Maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality as it relates to business in the office and/or work with individual students
    4. Mentor various students and/or student groups, assist with goal setting, decision-making and provide feedback as necessary

       

  2. Human & Organizational Resources:
    1. Assists with building community within various student groups through teambuilding, mentoring, and teamwork
    2. Collaborate with office staff and campus partners to create programs for student leaders and/or students in transition
    3. Assist in the recruitment and selection process for student leader roles within the department, including facilitating interviews and candidate evaluation
    4. Assist professional office staff with supervision and evaluation of student leader staff, including motivation and conflict resolution
    5. Potential to be involved in discussions and planning with other departments related to the mission of the department
  3. Student Learning & Development:
    1. Facilitate and coordinate weekly meetings and leadership trainings for student leaders
    2. Create and identify learning outcomes for various programs and events within the department
    3. Plan and manage off-campus social events to introduce students to the city of Baltimore
  4. Assessment, Evaluation & Research:
    1. Assist with the maintenance and implementation of office assessments and inventories to appropriately track and monitor program interest and feedback
    2. Assist with design and creation of student leader/participant applications, compile various application data, conduct and evaluate interviews
    3. Work with office staff to research programs at benchmark institutions as a way to improve current programming and better meet needs of students

Position-Specific Responsibilities

Facilitate and coordinate weekly meetings and leadership seminars for 30+ students

Assist with creating and implementing campus-wide civility campaigns
