Graduate Assistant, Graduate Student Programs and Activities

Hours & Wages


  • Period of employment is for Fall 2015 – Spring 2016
  • Approximately 6 hours per week while university is in session
  • $16.00/hour (50% stipend, 50% scholarship) for total of $1344/semester



  • Strong desire to create a sense of inclusion and belonging among graduate students
  • Excellent interpersonal /communication skills
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently on a variety of projects
  • Experience in marketing and desktop publishing a plus
  • Sense of creativity


  • Plan and host events of interest (eg. happy hours, service events, local trips) to the graduate student community
  • Assist in publishing graduate student newsletter
  • Assist in marketing events to campus community at the Columbia, Evergreen, and Timonium campuses in-person and through digital media
  • Conduct interest surveys and program evaluations to identify potential programs, and assess completed events
  • Collaborate with administrative and academic departments to assist them in providing programs and services for the graduate student community
  • Assist in giving occasional brief presentations about graduate student events
  • Other duties as assigned in support of graduate student programs and services
  • Some night and weekend work will be required while hosting events
