Scope

The graduate assistant (GA) for the Loyola Graduate Student Association (GSA) will work under the supervision of the Director of Graduate Student Services and in collaboration with the Director of Student Activities.

Hours and Wages

Period of employment:

  • One (1) academic year (Fall 2008-Spring 2009)
  • 7 hours/week

Remuneration:
This position is a 100 hour a semester position (including Summer 2008 as a semester) paid at the master’s or doctoral hourly rate as determined by Human Resources, half of which may be applied to tuition. 

Qualifications
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal/communication skills; some experience in leading groups; facility in communicating with faculty, students, and administrators.
  • Ability to work independently on a variety of projects.
  • Sense of creativity.
Responsibilities
  • Research peer and aspiration institutions for best practices in Graduate Student Association governance.

  • Survey current Loyola graduate students and well as graduate program directors and members of the faculty regarding possible events for a GSA to sponsor.

  • Write bylaws for a GSA and steward their journey through the governance process.

  • Construct a timeline for the launch of the Loyola GSA.

  • Assist in planning communication strategies for graduate students with various university offices.

  • Assist in maintaining a GSA web presence online.

  • Create a GSA recruitment and marketing strategy.

Expectations

  • Attend a weekly individual meeting with the Director

  • Maintain office hours between regular business hours. May require a few evening hours.

  • Coordinate efforts with another graduate assistant who reports to same Director
