Technology Training Center Graduate Assistantship

Remuneration

The GA position will be part time, working 20 hours per week. The position will begin in late August and work through the middle of May. The position will receive a stipend of $6500 and tuition remission for $6500.

Scope

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for the Technology Training Center will be responsible for creating and overseeing a program to caption athletic events located at the Ridley Athletic Complex. The GA will coordinate a team of student employees to provide captioning service at each event where the service has been requested or the need is anticipated by Athletics or Event Services. The GA will also assist with creating captions for Loyola’s promotional videos.

Qualifications

  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Able to quickly learn new technology.
  • Experience with captioning YouTube videos.
  • Able to type quickly with a high level of accuracy.

Expectations

The GA will conduct her/himself with a high level of professionalism during all interactions with the Loyola community and our guests. Demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity and in making sure all of the Loyola community and guests have an equal experience at our stadium. Maintain office hours at least 3 times per week. Be available on call for evenings/weekends during games. Serve as a positive role model to student employees.

 

Responsibilities

The GA will be responsible for the following:

  • Work with supervisor to create a smooth process for captioning videos at the RAC. This includes determining equipment to use, process for captioning stadium announcements, and process for captioning advertisements played at the stadium.
  • Create a team of student employees that will be providing the captioning. Work with supervisor to determine qualifications desired, interview and hire student employees.
  • Train student employees and Event Services staff on the captioning process.
  • Working with supervisor and Event Services, create schedule for athletic events to ensure someone is assigned to each event for captioning, as well as scheduling backups. Be on call for athletic events if there is an issue.
  • Occasionally provide captions for athletic events as necessary.
  • Caption Loyola’s promotional YouTube videos as they are uploaded to our channel.
  • Research current trends and technologies in captioning and work to continuously improve our process.
