Fellowships & Scholarships - Alumni

Working with Petri DishIn most cases, the national fellowships office will support alumni applying for the awards below for five years thier graduation.

Two types of nationally competitive and prestigious awards are available to Loyola alumni: endorsed and direct apply. Endorsed awards require a nomination from Loyola, while direct apply awards do not.

Applying for an endorsed award begins by filing a letter of intent. The deadline for the letter of intent is particular to Loyola and is always several months before the national deadline set by the awarding agency. Many more awards can be found by using one of the databases on the resouces page.

Endorsed Awards

Fulbright Logo Fulbright Grants: English Teaching Assistantships Teaching Assistantships in English are offered in many countries worldwide. Placements are in schools or universities outside of the capital cities. Assistants design various activities to improve their students' language abilities and knowledge of the United States, while increasing their own language skills and knowledge of the host country. Deadline: May 30

Fulbright Grants: Study, Research, and Independent Projects The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and is the largest U.S. international exchange program offering opportunities for students to undertake graduate study and advanced research worldwide in over 140 countries. Deadline: May 30

Mitchell Scholarship The US-Ireland Alliance has established the George J. Mitchell Scholarships to educate future American leaders about the island of Ireland and to provide tomorrow's leaders with an understanding about, an interest in, and an affinity with, the island from which 44 million Americans claim descent. Scholars are eligible to attend institutions of higher learning in Ireland, including the seven universities in the Republic of Ireland and the two universities in Northern Ireland, for one academic year of graduate study. The award provides tuition, housing, a living expenses stipend, and international travel. Deadline: May 15

Marshall Scholarship Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. At least forty Scholars are selected each year to study either at graduate or occasionally undergraduate level at an UK institution in any field of study. Each scholarship is held for two years. Deadline: May 15

Rhodes Scholarship The Rhodes Scholarships, the oldest international fellowships, bring outstanding students from many countries around the world to the University of Oxford. Rhodes Scholars are elected for two years of study at the University of Oxford, with the possibility of renewal for a third year. All educational costs, such as matriculation, tuition, laboratory and certain other fees, are paid. In addition, each Scholar receives a maintenance allowance adequate to meet necessary expenses for term-time and vacations.

Schwarzman Scholars Fully funded one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing Deadline: May 15

Yenching Yenching Academy Scholars Program Fully funded one-year Master of China Studies program (in English) at of Peking University. Deadline: May 15


Direct Apply Awards

Boren/NSEP Graduate Scholarships Supports the study of languages and cultures critical to U.S. national security and underrepresented in study abroad programs. Does not support Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand. Deadline: Dec. 1

Congress-Bundestang Youth Exchange for Young Professionals The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) for Young Professionals is a full-year work-study scholarship program with a strong focus on cultural exchange. Deadline: Early January

Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans Provides graduate study support to resident aliens, naturalized U.S. citizens, and the children of naturalized U.S. citizens. Deadline: Early November

Gates-Cambridge Scholarship Full scholarship to Cambridge University. Deadline: Mid October
