Writing and Artist Residences

General note: Deadlines are subject to change. Although we check these opportunities periodically for updates, faculty should check the funding organization’s website to verify the most current program information.

Edward F. Albee Foundation: Offers residencies to writers, visual artists, and composers for periods of up to one month. Applications are not accepted until after January 1.   

Banff Centre Self-Directed Writing Residencies: Supports self-directed writing residencies, which provide time, space, and facilities for individual research, editing, and manuscript development. Deadlines: Continuous.

George Bennett Fellowship in Writing: Supports residence at Phillip Exeter Academy in New Hampshire to work on writing projects. Preference is given to fiction writers.

Blue Mountain Center: Provides support for four-week residencies for writers, artists, activists, and musicians.

Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown: Provides creative writing and visual arts fellowships for young scholars early in their career. Fellows live at the Center in Massachusetts for seven months to work on writing projects.

MacDowell Colony: Offers residencies for writers. Writers can apply for a fall, winter, or summer period.

The Millay Colony for the Arts: Provides one-month residencies to writers, artists, and composers at all stages of their career.

Yaddo: Offers residencies for writers and other artists so they can have uninterrupted time to work.
