The following information is intended to provide guidance to tenure-track faculty members on the process of applying for a tenure-track research leave. While the timeline and activities for each faculty member will vary, this provides an overview of the process for those faculty members who are planning to apply in their third year for a research leave in the fourth year. It is recommended to begin the process early.
- Meet with ORSP and the chair to discuss research interests, no later than December 1 of the first year, and with the dean by the end of the first year (Yr. 1 – Fall)
- Review funding search results provided by ORSP
- Working with ORSP, identify 1-5 good prospects for external funding (Yr. 1 – early Spring semester)
- Submit pre-application (Yr. 1 – Summer)
- Pre-application approved (Yr. 1 – Summer)
- Work with ORSP on proposal development (Throughout process)
- Submit proposal to external funding agency (No later than last Monday in October, Yr. 3)
- Submit final application for tenure-track research leave (No later than last Monday in October, Yr. 3)
- Notification of leave approval (Late Fall, early Spring, Yr. 3)
- Take research leave (Fall or Spring semester, Yr. 4)
