Pam Wetherbee-Metcalf has extensive experience with directing recreational sports programs and facilities in higher education settings. Prior to becoming the Director of Recreational Sports at Loyola, Pam held positions as the director of recreation at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, NH, and the Recreation Center Director at Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, MA.  She was responsible for all preparations involved  in order to open and operate two of the three newly constructed recreation facilities mentioned above and began leadership of the third 10 months after its grand opening.  Based on these experiences, Pam has presented at National Intramural -Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Conferences on topics such as: Risk Management Planning, Bare Essentials of Managing Risk, and Achieving Operational Consistency. She has also served on NIRSA Committees related to Regional Conferences, HBCU Summits, and Facilities Institutes, in addition to being a professional and institutional NIRSA member.

A native of Massachusetts, Pam received her Bachelor of Science degree from Salem State University in Salem, Mass., where she was also a member of the 1986 Women’s Basketball National Championship Team. From Salem State, Pam went on to work in athletics/recreation for the U.S. Air Force. During her years working in athletic administration as a Department of Defense Civilian for the U.S. Air Force, she held all positions in the department, eventually earning the director of sports and fitness center position. As a result, Pam executed a robust recreation program for the active-duty military personnel assigned to Hanscom Air Force Base. During those early post-undergraduate years, Pam received the honor of being inducted into the Salem State College Athletic Hall of Fame and the New England Basketball Hall of Fame, as a team inductee for both. She went on to receive a Master of Science degree from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Ala., prior to shifting her career path toward higher education athletics and recreation.

In her free time, Pam enjoys sports, hiking, swimming, movies, TV, and spending as much time as possible with her children and husband!
