Hurricane Nate

October 11, 2017

Throughout the weekend, news has emerged of the destruction and devastation of Hurricane Nate. The hurricane killed at least 25 people in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras, and El Salvador. Many communities in the Gulf Coast of the United States have experienced power outages and flooding. Members of our Loyola community have roots and connections in Central America and the Gulf Coast region. Our thoughts, hearts, and prayers remain with each of you. There are a number of resources available to support students who are impacted by this tragedy, including the Counseling Center,  Campus Ministry, and Student Life. Any student needing additional support can reach out to staff members in division for Student Development.

Prayers for all those impacted by the natural disasters will be offered at our 12:10 pm daily Masses in the Alumni Memorial Chapel. For those interested in giving, please consider Catholic Charities or Catholic Relief Services.

Sincerely,

Seán Bray
Director of Campus Ministry

Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria

September 29, 2017

Dear Loyola community,

As you know, the beginning of this academic year has been marked by a number of natural disasters, including multiple earthquakes in Mexico, Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and most recently, Hurricane Maria, which caused devastation in the Caribbean, particularly in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Members of our own community have been deeply impacted as they witness the devastation their families, friends, and communities are experiencing. Faculty, staff, and administrators helped coordinate outreach to individual students from the affected areas to share resources and offer support. In addition, student organizations have been coming together to stand in solidarity with those who are hurting, and several student organizations are involved in fund raising efforts. Campus Ministry will host a prayer service on the Quad at 7:00 pm this Tuesday, October 3, and collections from Masses this weekend and next will go to support relief efforts in the Caribbean. Any students needing additional support should reach out to staff members in the Division for Student Development.

For those interested in giving, please consider Catholic Relief Services, the Jesuits UCS Province, Jesuit School and Parishes in Puerto Rico, or Unidos por Puerto Rico. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who are suffering in the wake of these recent natural disasters. We hold in our hearts all who have experienced loss of life, homes, and livelihood. May God’s grace and presence be close to them in their suffering. May these individuals, families, and communities find relief and safety as they begin the long road of rebuilding.

Sincerely,

Seán Bray
Director of Campus Ministry
