The office of student engagement and the department of recreational sports' Outdoor Adventure Experience present DISCOVERY, week-long outdoor adventure of backpacking, reflection, and camping. DISCOVERY will challenge you to seek your personal direction through experiential learning, discussion, adventure programming, and reflection. A truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, DISCOVERY is open to all undergraduate students.
DISCOVERY Participation Timeline Spring 2018
Step 1: Attend the INFORMATION SESSION! February 6th
Interested in joining us on DISCOVERY? We encourage you to attend ONE of this year's spring information sessions on February 6th to learn more about this amazing experience. The Discovery Information Session will feature a panel of past DISCOVERY participants who will share their pictures and stories as well as answer any questions you have about the trip!
*Students who would like to participate but did not attend an information session will have to attend a 30 minute meeting after signing up to discuss the logistics of the trip.
Step 2: SIGN UP! February 7th
The cost of the trip is $25, but do not worry about payment until after Spring Break. Need-based scholarships are available for students who can't comfortably cover the $25 cost.
Registration runs until 4 p.m. on March 2 (last day before Spring Break). We can take up to 24 students on DISCOVERY each year.
Step 3: Attend 1-2 PREP MEETINGS and Get to Know Your Fellow Participants
You'll be asked to attend one to two group meetings in the spring prior to the trip. We'll be giving out useful information about what you'll be doing on DISCOVERY, where you'll be going, what to pack, and how best to prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. You'll also get to spend some quality time with your fellow DISCOVERY participants to get to know them!
Step 4: DISCOVERY Trip (May 12 - 17, 2018)
On DISCOVERY, you'll spend the week backpacking, camping, rock climbing, reflecting on your life, and making some great memories with new friends. When you return to campus on the 17th, you'll have had many exciting adventures to tell your friends back home!
