How do I know if an item has been archived?

Messages that are more than 60 days old will have a different icon associated with them:

How do I recall a message from the archive?

  1. Find the archived item in your mailbox and double-click to open it. You will notice that the original formatting has not been retained. To view the message in its original view, continue to step 2.
  2. Locate the archive toolbar. Screenshot: Vault Toolbar (If you do not see this toolbar in Microsoft Outlook, please contact the OTS.)
  3. Click the "Restore From Vault" icon: Screenshot: Restore Icon
  4. Click OK to the pop-up window and the message will open as originally displayed.

Can I search my archive?

Yes! Messages older than 60 days are archived. You can search these archived messages easily, just follow these steps...

  1. Locate the archive toolbar. Screenshot: Vault Toolbar (If you do not see this toolbar in Microsoft Outlook, please contact the OTS.)
  2. Click the "Search Vaults" icon: Screenshot: Search Icon
  3. A search window will appear. Type a keyword or phrase to perform a simple search of your archive.

  4. If you wish to define your search criteria more, you can use advanced find by clicking the link at the top right labled "Advanced find..."

Is there a way that I can see what's in my archive without searching?

Yes! You can use the archive explorer to navigate your archived items. Remember, only messages older than 60 days are archived and will show up. To explore your archive, follow these steps...

  1. Locate the archive toolbar. Screenshot: Vault Toolbar (If you do not see this toolbar in Microsoft Outlook, please contact the OTS.)
  2. Click the "Archive Explorer" icon: Screenshot: Explore Icon If you are asked to login, enter your Loyola username and password.
  3. The archive explorer will open and illustrates a duplicate structure to that of your mailbox. Explore your archive as you would your mailbox to find items.

  4. When you click a folder, the archive explorer will present a navigation bar at the top of the window. You can use this bar to add criteria for searching as well as filters for viewing.
