A career that is rooted in one’s unique interests, personality, values, and abilities has enormous potential. Therefore, self-assessment is an important first step in one’s career decision-making process.

In addition to career decision-making, self-assessment can also help you capitalize on your strengths and avoid pitfalls as you progress throughout your career. The Career Center offers a suite of online assessment tools that provide insight into who you are and, through consultation with a career advisor, assist you in clarifying your career objectives.

Whether you are deciding on a career field, changing jobs or careers, or are interested in making the most of your current job, please contact The Career Center for information on our self-assessment tools.

Focus

Focus, a career and educational planning system, consists of the following self exploration assessments: current career planning status, interests and work values, education and training, personality and life values, leisure time preferences, and current or future skills. Get started.

Strong Interest Inventory (SII)

The SII is based on the idea that individuals are more satisfied and productive when they work in jobs that they find interesting and when they work with people who have similar interests. The SII takes about 25 minutes to complete and contains 317 items that measure your interests in a wide range of occupations, occupational activities, hobbies, leisure activities, and types of people. An appointment with a career advisor is required.

Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

One of the most popular personality assessments, this tool helps you realize your individual personality type and can help point you in some possible career directions. An appointment with a career advisor is required.
