Delivering Presentations

All grades are not based on written exams. Sometimes instructors will ask students to deliver a verbal presentation to examine a student's ability to articulate and apply course material. Unlike written examinations, verbal examinations are often graded on knowledge and delivery. Therefore, students must be sure that they conduct sufficient research and develop strong presentation skills.

  1. Do not wait until the last minute to gather materials.
  2. Outline your speech: Introduction, Body, and Conclusion.
  3. Use supporting materials throughout your verbal presentation.
  4. Take a public speaking course.
  5. Dress appropriately.
  6. Practice, practice, and practice.
  7. Perform a run through in front of your roommate or a family member.
  8. Be organized.
  9. Use visual aids.
  10. Relax. If you make a mistake, forget about and move on.
  11. Stay within your time limit.
