Social Responsibility

Recycle LogoBeverage Refill Program
A great way to save money (and reduce waste!) is to participate in our Beverage Refill program. When you choose to use a refillable mug for any fountain beverage, the cost per drink is just $0.94!!! That's a savings of $0.55 from the standard price for a large beverage!! Through this program, we are proud to support one of Loyola College's goals in reducing the amount of trash going into landfills by reducing the amount of disposable products being used by the community.

NEW!!! Re-Usable Food Container Program
New this semester, Sodexho Dining Services has developed a program for take-out food orders that is similar to our Beverage Refill Program. We offer a re-usable container that can be brought in and the Customer will also receive a $0.20 discount on their purchase. We offer our Minute Meals "Grab n Go" items that are microwaveable in Re-usable Containers as well. This year we also moved from placing napkins in Dining Room tables to putting them in the Servery in sleek dispensers and this reduced napkin usage by 1/2.

Our Commitment to the Loyola Community

Living Wage
We are two years in to a three year Living Wage Plan. In an effort to get equal to or better we started out at paying our employees $8.20 an hour in Year One, increased that to $8.70 an hour in Year Two, and In August of 2005 we will be at $9.20 an hour. This should put us ahead of the Baltimore Living Wage Rate. This is great for our employees! By creating an opportunity for success in our employees personal lives, they will additionally be allowed more success in their professional lives at work.

Fair Trade
We introduced Fair Trade Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate, and even Milk Chocolate candy bars to the Loyola College Community about one year ago. Equal Exchange Fair Trade Products are available for retail purchase at Primo's and Surf n Joe's. Additionally, we only brew Fair Trade Starbucks Verona and Shade Grown Organic in all of our Retail Locations. Café a la Cart located in the Sellinger Atrium, brews Fair Trade, shade grown, and Organic Coffees as well.
