Have My Listserv Messages Made It to the List?

When you send a message to our class list, you should receive a copy of the message sent back to your email. This message should look just like the messages sent by other classmates. You should not see additional information that looks like an error. Click here to see an example of an error message. Note the messge includes the phrase "The message that you sent was undeliverable," and it is from Mailer-Daemon, not from the Listserv. It does include the original message at the bottom, but other information indicates that it is an error that did not go through to the list. Based on what is wrong with the original message, you might receive different error messages, but you should be able to determine that the message is an error, not a message that was distributed to the list.

If you aren't sure if you message went through, or if you want to find old messages that you sent but deleted, you can login to the listserv server to see all the messages that have been sent to the list. The first time you do this you will have to create an account, but after that, you will be able to login to the server with the account you created.

Step 1. Go to http://listserv.loyola.edu/

Step 2. Click on List User Interface

Step 3. Scroll down to find the class list (e.g., ET605-61) and click on it.Your screen should look something like this:

Step 4. Messages are sorted by month, so to see all the messages that you have posted you will have to visit each month separately. Click on the month you want to see.

Step 5. You will be asked to login by seeing a screen like this:

If you have already created an account enter your email address (e.g., jasmith@loyola.edu) and password, click login, and skip to Step 10.

Step 6. If you have not created an account, click on the words "get a new LISTSERV password first" to get to the following screen:

Step 7. Enter your email address. This must be your full email address (e.g., jasmith@loyola.edu), and it must be the address that you use for the listserv.

Step 8. Enter a password in the "Password" box and enter the same password in the "Password (again)" box. This does not have to be the same password you use for your email. You can make up anything that you want.

Step 9. Check your email. You soon will receive an email message with instructions for how you can verify the creation of your account. Follow those instructions. At that point, you will be able to login on the screen pictured in Step 5.

Step 10. Once you have logged in you will see a number of buttons at the top of the screen. These can be used to sort the messages by author, date, and subject as well as other options:

If you are looking for your own messages, you might want to click on the first button, to sort by author so all your messages from that month are grouped together.

Step 11. Scroll down to the listing of the message you want to view, and click on it to see the message. If the message is not wrapping (that is, the lines are running off the end of the screen), you can click on the second to last button (the first one with "jkl") to wrap the text.

Step 12. You can print a message with your browser if you need to, you can choose other messages in the same month by clicking on "Previous page" at the bottom of the screen, and you can choose a message from another month by clicking on "Main ET605-61 page" and clicking on the month of choice.
