Everyday Object Critique Rubric


Developing Proficient Distinguished
Design Principles Critiques the design of the chosen object correctly using fewer than five of the design principles. Maximum project grade = C Critiques the design of the chosen object correctly using five of the design principles. Maximum project grade = B Critiques the design of the chosen object using all seven design principles: affordance, conceptual models, visibility, mapping, feedback, standardization, and tradeoffs. Correctly uses each of the design principles. Required to receive an A on the project.
Positive and Negative Aspects Only discusses positive or negative aspects of the design of the chosen object and not both positive and negative aspects. Discusses both positive and negative aspects of the design chosen object, but some issues are not design issues. Discusses both positive and negative aspects of the design of the chosen object using the design principles.
Object Description After reading the paper, the reader does not know what the object is. Describes the object. Includes a clear and concise description of the object.
Joys and Frustrations   Is a strictly clinical analysis of the object from a design standpoint. Provides the reader with a sense of your joys and frustrations using the object.
Design Suggestions (optional)     Provides suggestions for improvements to the design of the object based on the design principles.
Mechanics Contains many grammar, spelling, and/or usage errors, or is clearly stretching to fill space. Contains a few grammar, spelling, and/or usage errors or is too long or too short, or does not have numbered pages. Contains correct grammar, spelling, and usage throughout and is 2-4 pages, with 12-point font, double-spaced, and numbered pages.
