Active Listservs

David M. Marcovitz

Note that I no longer require my students to subscribe to listservs, so I get very little feedback about the activity of the lists. Feel free to let me know if you have information about the activity of any of these lists, but don't count on the information being highly up-to-date.

This is a list of listservs (i.e., email mailing lists) to which my students have successfully subscribed over the last few semesters. I do not guarantee that a listserv appearing on this list will be active, but there is a good chance that it will be since I know that people have used the list over the last year.

This list is to be used in conjunction with the longer list of listservs that gives complete instructions on how to sign up for each listserv.

The fact that a listserv appears on the longer list and not this list is not an indication that the listserv is inactive; it just means that my students have not gotten mail from it. If you find an interesting listserv on the longer list, feel free to try to subscribe to it.

Be careful. Some lists are not at all active, some lists are moderately active, and some lists are very active. If you do not get any messages from a listserv within a week, you should consider trying a different listserv. If you get too many messages from a listserv (more messages than you can keep up with based on the frequency you can read email), then unsubscribe from that listserv (by following the instructions that were sent to you when you originally subscribed).

Note that many listservs require you to confirm your subscription before you can sign up. Usually, you must confirm your subscription within 48 hours. Therefore, after you follow the instructions to sign up for a listserv, be sure to check your email within the next couple of days, so you can follow the instructions sent to you to confirm your subscription.

If you are not going to read email after this class is over, be sure to unsubscribe from your listservs at the end of the semester.
