Agenda: Class 2
ET605 Introduction to Educational Technology
David Marcovitz
- Data analysis in schools video (http://www.mttsonline.org/standards/standard_IV/watchPromise.php) (if available)
- Announcements and Questions
- Be sure to save your work because you might need it later
- Newsletters should have been dropped in the Moodle assignment
- They are not graded
- They don’t have to be perfect
- They do have to be handed in
- All but one of you (not counting the one person who received her accounts today) handed it in
- Class Google Group
- I have created a Google Group for the class; you should have
received notice of being added to the list with the account you listed
on your survey
- If you want to use your Loyola email address, you can access your Loyola email at http://login.live.com/
- If you want to change the email address used by the Google Group, go to the group (https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/et605) and request to join
- You can send a message to the whole class by emailing et605@googlegroups.com; this is not required because we will use Moodle for the article discussions
- Beware: When you reply to a message to the group, you are likely sending to the entire class
- Don't forget to get assigned articles from Moodle
- Don’t fall behind on technology skills; they will be on the final exam
- Questions
- Accounts Revisited
- As of Wednesday, everyone but one person (besides the one who
doesn't yet have accounts) had posted a test message to the Just
Testing thread
- Is anyone still having difficulty accessing Loyola accounts (Moodle, most importantly)
- Discuss Readings
- Newsletter Examples
- Spreadsheets Introduction
- Spreadsheet Activity (individually, but you may help each other)
- This activity is similar to what might be on the Final Exam
(but I wouldn't use a sports or cars example on the exam as not to
disadvantage those of you who are sports-or-cars-challenged)
- You do not need to turn this in, but you may email it to me if you would like feedback
- Spreadsheet Mini-Activity (in pairs; time permitting; not required to hand in)
- Try the spreadsheet checkerboard challenge:
- Which would you choose: $100,000 placed on each square of a
checkerboard (you keep all the money on all the squares), or 1 penny
($.01) placed on the first square, 2 pennies placed on the second
square, 4 pennies placed on the third square, 8 pennies placed on the
fourth square, etc. (doubling each time), and you get to keep all the
pennies that are on the last square?
- Use a spreadsheet to figure out which is better
- Assignments
- Send me the Spreadsheet Activity if and only if you want feedback
- Read Article 2: Learning Connections from Learning & Leading with Technology (posted to Moodle)
- Post messages about the Monke article on Moodle
