Information to Share: School/District Acceptable Use Policy; Filtering Policy (including compliance with the Children's Internet Protection Act)

What is the status of your school/district's AUP (if you only use district policy, just mention that; no need for more details)?
Do all students/parents have to sign a policy statement before gaining network access?
Does your school/district require filtering?
What filtering package, if any, do you use?
Have you had or heard about any problems due to filtering or not filtering?
Has anyone in your school/district heard of the Children's Internet Protection Act?

Acceptable Use Policy Brainstorm: What Should Go In Your School's Acceptable Use Policy?

Read The Dangerous Web (PDF document - draft of chapter from my forthcoming book)
Review the St. Vrain Valley School District Policy (PDF document)
Review the Acceptable Use Policy Google Doc from class (group 1)
In the wiki, add one idea of what should be included in your school's acceptable use policy (put your name after your one entry)

In your groups, formulate an age-appropriate Acceptable Use Policy that is relevant to your grade and understandable by the students in your grade.
This should be a draft and not a well-polished final version--something you might create working in class with a group for 30-45 minutes.
Join your group by April 12 and finish by April 14.
Group leader is first name on the list.
Group leaders should share with the class in the discussion forum by April 14.

Read this very short article about a new requirement for Virginia students to take one online course before graduating.
Share your reaction to this article by April 17. How would this work in Maryland?

Listen to the brief introduction to Integrated Learning Systems Listen (2:13).
Spend about half an hour exploring one of the following. Look at promotional material. Try lessons if available.

Would it be useful to your school? If so, how might you use it? Respond in the forum below by April 17.

Think about how you might use these models in your school.
In your group, put together a brief proposal (equivalent of about 2 pages) for your principal proposing to implement this in your school. Describe why it might be beneficial, for what grade levels or subject areas it might be most useful, and what resources you might need to pull this off. Keep in mind that you could write a much longer proposal, but this will just be an overview.

Watch videos and enter wiki no later than April 15.
Complete discussion and have group leader post to forum by April 17.

As this is the most significant change process, these questions will be very relevant.
In your group wiki, discuss the following questions (join the discussion no later than April 19)

Group leader is first name on wiki
Group leader is responsible for getting discussion started and nudging participation
Group leader should post results of discussion to discussion forum by April 22
