    Volunteers

There are occasions when our Full-time and Student Staff numbers are aided by various volunteers who offer their assistance with some of our larger events.  If you would like to find out more about volunteering, or if you have appointed a volunteer and would like to have some more information about what you will be doing, please look here.

Welcome to the Event Services Volunteer Staff

You have been assigned to the Event Services Department for completion of your Civility Hours.  Although you may only interact with us for a small amount of time we will consider you a part of our team.  Fulfilling your responsibility will certainly be the focus of your time spent with us however we believe that after reflection you will feel your experience with us was educational, spiritual and hopefully you had a few laughs with the Event Services family.  Having said that, while you are working with us we demand mature professional behavior.  You are a reflection of the Event Services team when you are working with us.

The nature of the work is physical.  You may be asked to move, install, arrange, breakdown - tables, chairs, tarps, podiums, stage sections and or technical and multi-media equipment for College events both on and off campus. You may be asked to attend events and provide last minute logistical, housekeeping, or production needs.  Our department is also responsible for relocation of offices on campus and you may be asked to assist with this process as well.  If you have questions at any time please do not hesitate to ask.

Available hours are sent out via email every Thursday.  You need to reply to the email with your availability based on the “hours” schedule.  Certain terms in the “hours” emails are job lingo.  Most commonly used are LI, which means load-in or setup, and LO which means load-out or breakdown.  If you have questions about other terms that are used please do not hesitate to ask for clarification.

When you sign up for a call (specified amount of work) you will be expected to work the entire call.  If a load-out goes for four hours you cannot leave after two. If four staff are required for a specific call and you sign up for that call then you are counted as one of those four. If you fail to show up or feel like you want to leave early it directly impacts the other three members of our team. For this reason, the full call must be satisfied for credit to be issued for hours worked.

If you are unable to make a call to which you have been assigned, you need to let  Patrick Durkin (443-271-8052) or Joe Bradley (410-977-0247) know immediately. Failure to properly notify one of us may result in a re-assignment.

Besides punctuality, there are two other non-negotiable requirements when working for Event Services.  First, you must wear shoes that completely cover the front and back of your feet. No open toed shoes, sandals or clogs are permitted while you work for us. This is for your own safety. Second, no hats, visors, or head-bands are to be worn while you are completing your service hours.   This rule helps maintain a professional appearance while working.

Whenever you have completed a shift of hours you need to email Patrick Durkin at pdurkin@loyola.edu.  It is your responsibility to let him know what you have worked.  He will communicate with Student Life on your status.
