STUDENT INSTRUCTOR APPLICANTS

for Fall 08


Important Dates: (specific dates TBA)

Nominations from Administrators and Faculty: November/December

Applications sent to student nominees: late January

Applications due: February 1st!!!!!

Interviews: February (TBA)

Decisions: late February/March 


Duties of Student Instructors for FE 100:

*Students are expected to collaborate with teaching teams consisting of one Faculty member and one Administrator.

*Students are expected to work with teaching teams to develop a course syllabus for the semester.

*Students are expected to utilize student leadership contacts to plan and execute 2-3 course sessions.

*Students are expected to give feedback on written reflection papers.

*Students are expected to attend training sessions in the Spring (April 26th) and in the Fall (late Aug or early Sept.).

*Students are expected to serve as peer mentors for first-year students.

*Students are expected to serve as positive role models inside and outside of the classroom.


EXPECTED QUALITIES of FE 100 STUDENT INSTRUCTORS:

Students should possess:

* An overall GPA of 2.75 or higher.

* Involvement in at least one leadership position on campus or service in any leadership capacity.

* An ability to contribute to and at times facilitate meaningful conversation and discussion on topics such as diversity, service, identity development, etc.

* The energy and interest in planning events such as a cultural excursion or social event.

* An ability to recognize that one is both a student and a leader. (i.e., Yes, you are in student mode, but you are also a role model and perhaps a mentor for these younger students.  There is a responsibility to act in certain ways as a result of that (e.g., looking cool should not be a priority)

* An ability to consult with Faculty, Staff, and Administrators, while planning class events.

* An interest in growing as a young professional and openness to feedback from other FE 100 professionals.
